The aim of the ECDIS IMO Model Course 1.27 is to provide the necessary knowledge, understanding and skills in the use of Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems (ECDIS) for use during a navigational watch.

This is achieved through in-depth exercises on our ECDIS simulators, supported by a program of lectures and instruction.

The course is designed for candidates being certified as Officers in Charge of a navigational watch, experienced nautical officers and others with responsibility in navigation work, such as pilots.

The theoretical aspects of all major characteristics of ECDIS data is covered in sufficient depth, as well as operational scenarios in open sea, coastal waters and channels.

This ECDIS course is approved by NMA to be in accordance with STCW 2010 Manila Amendments.

OBJECTIVE

The course will enable the participant to:

• Operate the ECDIS equipment, use the navigational functions of ECDIS,
• select and assess all relevant information and take proper action in the case of a malfunction;
• State the potential errors of displayed data and the usual errors of interpretation, and
• Explain why ECIDS should not be relied upon as the sole aid to navigation
